Independence Party of Minnesota delegates will gather for the party’s 2013 state convention on Saturday June 1, at St. Cloud State University. The theme of the annual IP meeting is “Fighting for Fair and Honest Government for All Minnesotans.”

Delegates will consider resolutions on transparency in campaign spending and the State Party Chair’s call for a lawsuit to balance the state budget if it is not done honestly before December 1, 2013.

“One bedrock principle of the Independence Party of Minnesota is that our state’s budgets must be balanced prudently, without gimmicks, shifts or borrowing,” said state chair Mark Jenkins. “We believe in honesty, even when it has political costs,” Jenkins added, echoing the IP platform.

A contested election for State Party Chair and Director is expected to occur as are considerations to the party constitution and platform on issues including political action committees, pensions, and the legalization, taxation and regulation of marijuana.

Hamline University professor David Schultz will deliver the convention keynote on the future of third parties.
