Independence Party Endorses Two for St. Paul City Council, Selects Officers
February 28, 2015.
St. Paul – The Fourth Congressional District held its annual convention today at the Sun Ray Library in St. Paul. Business included candidate endorsements and party officer elections. Two candidates for St. Paul city council sought, and received, party endorsement for their races.
Cara Martner, 26, is seeking election to the Ward 2 seat being vacated by Dave Thune. She was born and raised in Saint Paul’s Ward 2. “I’ve spent my life growing up with Saint Paul and the neighborhoods in Ward 2 are ones near and dear to my heart,” said Martner. “I am very pleased to receive the support of the Independence Party for my campaign for the Ward 2 city council seat,” she stated. Martner is looking to focus on issues related to infrastructure and to create more open and transparent communication between the residents and business owners of Ward 2 with their local politics. Her website is www.caramartner.com and she can be reached at firstname.lastname@example.org.
David Sullivan-Nightengale, 41, is seeking to represent the residents of Ward 5. A safety engineer by vocation, Sullivan noted, “since Kathy Lantry, a St. Paul City Council member has taken over an engineering position (referencing Lantry’s being selected to run the Public Works Department), it’s only fitting that an engineer should be elected to the city council.” Sullivan-
Congressional District officers were also elected. Phil Fuehrer was re-elected as Chair and former Afton City Council member Jack Kollmer was elected Vice Chair.
