Independence Party Seeks To Involve All Minnesotans

Caucus Initiative Underway

The Independence Party launches an initiative to increase 2004 caucus attendance. As advocates of the democratic process, increasing the participation of all Minnesotans in the political process is among the party's highest priorities. Attending a state caucus is the natural next step for any voter looking to increase their involvement.

Through public education and an outreach campaign called "Be Heard", the Independence Party anticipates doubling attendance at its caucuses. To accommodate the increase in attendance, the number of caucus locations has been increased, making the party more accessible than ever before. Lead caucus organizer Dave Hutchinson, 2002 State Auditor candidate, is ready to set up additional locations. "Any Minnesotan who sees we have no caucus scheduled for his or her town, and thinks we should have, should call us.", stated Hutchinson.

Attendees at IP caucuses will also have the opportunity to weigh in on the presidential campaign. An instant run off (IRV) presidential poll demonstration will be conducted to illustrate where independent voters are currently leaning. This process will be a hands-on opportunity for Minnesotans to learn about instant run off voting.

At caucus events, average citizens commit to becoming candidates. Community members discuss issues important to them. Many attendees commit to increasing their political activism by becoming delegates. Independence caucus participants will find a nonintimidating environment allowing citizens to participate without hesitation.
