PRESS RELEASE

2006 IP State Convention
Something to look forward to!

Endorsing Candidates is the purpose of this year’s Independence Party State Convention. Inspiring broader citizen participation in politics is the goal. We will meet this challenge by presenting visionary candidates ready to move Minnesota forward in an atmosphere of fun.

Delegates will choose between Peter Hutchinson and Pam Ellison to endorse for Governor. Ellison entered the race this week to challenge Hutchinson, who has been at work nine months laying the groundwork for his campaign. The U.S. Senate race currently has three candidates vying for endorsement: Robert Fitzgerald, Executive Director of Access Televiosion; Jim Haviland, Senior Consultant for Corporate Visions; and Stephen Williams, enviromental expert in the management of prairie land. Three very different candidates, all qualified to become bold leaders. Candidates for Secretary of State, Attorney General, and State Auditor will be announced shortly.

Our unconventional convention will be held in the open air of Midway Stadium, home of the Saint Paul Saints. Surrounding the day’s important business will be an atmosphere of family friendly fun. The band Emerson, Lake, and Lyndale, featuring Adam Levy of the Honeydogs, will perform their boisterous rock nuggets from the 60’s and 70’s prior to the start of the convention. During the convention, the crowd will be entertained by sumo wrestlers, a live bison (the Independence Party’s Mascot) , and other activities for kids. Afterwards, the Independence Party will be hosting a picnic supper, and has reserved tickets for those interested in attending that evening’s Saints game.

We expect the crowd to leave the convention energized behind our endorsed candidates, engaged in the up-coming election cycle, and, most importantly, retaining the feeling that politics remains a noble, enjoyable family affair.
